I finally finished all the character sheets for the main cast. Whew! I suppose I could add sheets for the Brothers in Badness, Gil and Faron Haldor, but let's leave them a surprise for later. Now it's on to much more solid writing, such as true bios, settings and background. I'll also be posting some works done by my good friend, Dr-Ngor dr-ngor.deviantart.com/, who has graciously allowed me to post his work to my page. He's produced a beast design and a map of the continent of il-Satol, or at least the portion of the continent that's been charted. He also has extensive notes for the map which I will be including as well. I'm really impressed with the work he's done and am anxious to get it posted this weekend. Stay tuned!
In other news, my Delvii short story, "It Grows By One," was given an in-depth critique by Acfloriath acfloriath.deviantart.com/ after I submitted it to a literature contest at dA group Sci-Fi-Fantasy-WORLD sci-fi-fantasy-world.deviantar…. Thank you very much, Acfloriath!
I have two new artwork commissions to share in two very different styles. I think they're both very fitting of their respective stories.
The first contains full-frontal nudity, because it's a scene that takes place while Thalia is being aggressively confronted in the public showers. So... fair warning there. This was done by the talented jackcrowder jackcrowder.deviantart.com/. I love his take on pop art. It has a certain near-surreal feel to it that suits the frantic and dark setting of the chapter in which this piece was based on.
If you decide you'd rather not see Thalia naked, do note that my current avatar is from this piece, so at least you get to see part of it. I love Thalia's glowing eyes.
On the complete opposite end of the spectrum is a piece by the lovely moonchildinthesky moonchildinthesky.deviantart.c…. Catching a break from their long travels, Thalia and Suha stop to get a fresh set of clothes, and by some miracle Thalia convinces Suha to partake in some basic hygiene as well. Suha is suitably displeased with this, but at least she's clean now! Moonchildinthesky did a great job adding all the earthy tones to the piece. Not only does it accurately represent their environment, but it adds warmth to the scene.
D'aww! I'm also starting to really love Thalia's hair. It started with Weremole's design (to be posted at a later date), was picked up by Probablee's design, and in both of these commissions retains its long, fluffy, auburn-y goodness.
That's about it for now, folks. Thanks for stopping by, as always, and be on the lookout for more of my never-ending world-building!

Another Move Across the Country
At the end of November last year, my family (there are four of us) moved from Virginia to Texas. That's 1400 miles across the country. Now we're moving again, this time to California. That's another 1700 miles. Oy. I hope we're done moving for the next, oh, decade, at least. That's really all I have to share with everyone. This is the main reason I've been absent from dA. If anyone knows of a good pizza joint in the Bay Area, please let me know. Austin pizza is crap.
Take care, y'all, and see you in the funny pages!

You're the Inspiration
I want to put another journal entry up, since it's been so long.
My writing muse has not been tickled in quite some time. I could use some inspiration; may I borrow yours? I'm interested to know what gets your creative juices flowing. For me, it's a lot of things. Maybe it's a song that I simply must develop a story around, or maybe it's someone I've seen who has an interesting laugh or way of dressing that begs to be made into a fictional character. Sometimes I find great art on dA that inspires entire scenes for me.
But lately... nothing. It's not just writer's block. There's a whole wall of blocks in my mind right now. I'm thinking that
2012 Writing Goal: Settings
One of my stories was rejected recently by one of the sci-fi groups here at dA. This is the second time this group has rejected a story of mine; the first time I contacted the group and asked for an explanation. There were apologies and my story was accepted, but I never got an explanation (maybe it was simply an error). This time, though, I'm just going to let it go.
You may think this is a rant or a whine, but my point in bringing this up is to examine what I could be doing better with my stories.
I'm rereading some of my stories and thinking that what makes them unmistakably fantasy (or more specifically, sci-fi) isn't always evident eno
Glossary? What Glossary?
I was going to write one of those, right? Oops!
At least I finished something recently: a short story featuring Faron and Gil Haldor.
:thumb256163261:
I'd like to do more of these, to get into the minds of my characters. In this case, the entire story was from Faron's viewpoint, even though Gil is in the story, too. I have three more "character study" short stories in various stages of (in)completion, including one with Sotiris and Myrini, one with Suha, and one with Alden and Thalia. The one featuring Sotiris and Myrini is the closest to being finished right now, so hopefully I can share it soon.
On to artwork!

I love Moonchildinthesky's art, Amy. I sometimes feel like giving "The Outer Districts" the following tagline: "Alien dystopias have never been this LIKABLE." Of course, we know that it's not all fun and games and lovable moments of hair brushing on Delvii, but the art associated with the story so far is just really sweet.
